Dear Lyss

Thanks for your mail asking me how to blog. If you don’t mind, let me write this on a blog post so that I don’t have to repeat myself so often.

I really hope that you can be willing to spend a little of your precious to
help a newbie to get into the blogger world. To be honest, of course I’m most
interested to make some money

I would be most grateful if you can guide me on this or so much as to give me
some pointers on how to get started. I promise all your time and effort will be
very much appreciated

Here you go :

1) Go to http://www.blogger.com/ and start a new account. If you have no intention of making money, go to WordPress.Com. WordPress.Com does not allow you to put ads so forget it if you have intention of making money.

2) Sign up and start blogging! Try it for three months.

3) After three months and if you think you love blogging, please remind me and I will teach you how to monetize your site. I do not wish to go into this when someone starts blogging because it is very de-moralising as you cannot make money so soon. In fact, sometimes,we need a year.

4) So, what should you blog? If you write about your personal life, you need to have some weird characters to attract people to read often. (just like me hahaha)

5) Think first what are some of your strong points, something that you can continue talking and writing without running out of ideas. You need passion.

Both Blogger and WordPress have made things really easy to understand and manage. You can change your blog theme/template, put photos, change colours and etc. Please read their tutorial if you do not know.

Thanks for the fast reply and all the useful tips. I’ve just browse through the links given and I’ll start my blog once I manage to think of a name for it.. hehe

If you start on Worpress as Lilian mentioned you can’t monetize your blog, but WP blogs can really get good traffic and PR, so you can later use it to feed or get good backlink for some new blog adventures.

Passion is an essential to be a blogger,other wise we can’t go far.In between ,we will face a lot of obstacles.If we don’t have passion on blogging,we will give up half way.I am not a problogger but i can conclude there are two types of bloggers:

1) Blog for interest or would like to voice out some issues.Eg .Tun Mahatir.

2) Blog for money -eg:John Chow

It depends which category you are,then focus on it and be expert .

Fast fast 3 months then we can read how to earn money again. Lyss, work hard and pass the 3 month probation k? Then we can all learn how to earn money. =P

One question, how do you master the SEO skills? I think other than talking too much, I do not have a weird or special character that get people coming back for more. Every day have to think of ways to bring in traffic so that I can maintain it. My traffic sekejap naik sekejap turun. I also don’t know why. =P I only get traffic if I innit my post. Sometimes nothing to blog or not interesting enough to inni, my UV jatuh pilipalang.

I always thought that blogger couldn’t be used to make any money other than adsense. I have always been told by others that if you want to make money you can’t use any of the free services cause if they catch you they can delete your blog cause you are voilating their TOS.

hi Lilian, first of all thanks for the sharing in your blog, it’s really beneficial. I used to blog few years back, but I stopped because I was running out of idea. After reading your blog recently, it drew my interest to start blogging again, well mainly because I would like to try on making money via blogging. I have a lil knowledge on developing the blog, but my major problem, I don’t know how to attract visitors, how to advertise my blog more effectively, besides spreading about it through friends. Do you mind to give some tips on that?

i find the best way to attract visitors is to build up slowly. you need a good base of quality links to your site. this means you must BUILD RELATIONSHIPs with fellow bloggers/websites/social networking/etc. like 5x said, it takes a while. but dont feel discouraged, you are doing this for yourself! =)

Hi kit, i am definitely agree with you, my mistake is, i am too eager to earn money from my website and i am actually started about 5 website in just 2 months, and as a result, i dont have some many time to concentrate on every each of the websites :( My advise, concentrate on 1 website first before you start another.
