What’s your definition of a problogger?

The post by Hyder from everybodygoto got me thinking and I think I want to ramble on about this term ‘problogger‘. I know Hyder briefly from one of the paid post forum but I think both of us have left the paid post field for a while. However, I still subscribe to his blog because I like a variety of bloggers on my reading list. Hyder said :

How do you define a ProBlogger?

- A person who has built a reputation on a subject via an online weblog

Do you concur?

Well, here are my opinions on problogger.

Problogger is a term people bestowed upon you
and not the other way round. I normally snigger at those bloggers who labelled themselves problogger just because they become a full-time blogger.

Problogger has to have multiple skills and that includes writing, technical (i.e. all those coding and programs), business and marketing.

Problogger must be a generous leader, i.e. sharing their wisdom and knowledge.

Problogger has to earn the respect.

Problogger has to have an brandname.

Problogger must exudes a personality online that people immediately can remember.

Problogger is not measured by the amount of money they make but by how they made it. I wouldn’t call those internet marketeers who sell ebooks that cause noobs to buy even more ebooks and softwares to make money a problogger.

In conclusion, if you ask me if we have any problogger in Malaysia, I will give you a blank look and say…HUH? Come again? What was your question again?

So, how do you define a problogger? Do you think you can slap on that title in your about page and start thinking you are a problogger already?

SEM strategies like pay per click and per inclusion work well only with domain names of trusted web servers. The hosting service should be able to do this with or without broadband. A webmaster is aware of these facts.

Tend your blog like your garden

I have been busy these few days with endless number of things to do. And suddenly, this came to my mind. Many years back, I was crazy about gardening. It involves a lot of work.

Planting = writing new posts

Weeding = remove spams, useless ads, stuffs on sidebar and any posts that make not sense

Putting fertiliser = upgrade plugins, latest Wordpress, new ways of boosting traffic etc

Trimming = improve on your old posts if they are driving traffic to your site

Fencing = LOL, like adding no-follow, if possible

Oh well…that’s about it.

One thing that some bloggers may have missed is the pot of gold buried in our old posts. That’s why we need to observe and analyze our traffic.

Know what are the few keywords that drive traffic to your site and improve on those pages. Do not leave the old pages as mere dead plants. They are the ones bearing fruits, i.e. bringing organic traffic which in turn translates into money.

Few days ago, an advertiser was being very frank in the PPP forum. He (or is it she) lamented about bloggers deleting post after 30 days of posting. Well, bloggers are not doing anything wrong as we are paid for the 30 days only. Howevever, this advertiser said that it is only after 90 days that our post will bring value to them. So, they are frustrated to see that lots of money were spent on mere 30 days.

Of course, I must repeat that I no longer have any paid posts on this blog. I am talking about my other PR 0 blogs. True enough, many of the paid posts I did for advertisers are appearing top on search engines even after a year. Do I delete them off? No, I leave them as I am too lazy to sieve through. Frankly, we do not owe the advertiser to keep the link. Some of my friends deleted off the links and leave the post. Again, it is our rights. After all how much do they expect for five bucks, right?

So, look at the overall health of your blog and do not just focus on the current ones. For example, I slept at 5 am yesterday because I suddenly have the urge to tend to one neglected site and went through upgrading, installing codes, add plugins, improve SEO with whatever knowledge I have and I submit the site to Google for reconsideration. It is a main domain which I have never used for paid posts but when my sub-domain was smacked, the whole thing went down together. Let’s see if I can get back the PR.

Oh, don’t forget to plant some new flowers for the next season = create new niche blogs

Happy Gardening!

Blogging for money is 50% analysing, 40% reading and 10% writing

*A re-post*
People will tell you not to be too obsessed with looking at your stats. But if you are blogging for money, it is one of the most important thing to do. You cannot forge ahead blindly and keep churning out articles. You are only wasting time.

You have to know where your traffic comes from, what they are looking for, which sites send you the highest referrals, where you can promote your blog and etc etc. Sometimes, I can spend some hours just analysing how people find me. It is a tedious job because I have to know why they come and how I can make more people come.

I have to know if there are some factors that will cause a spike in traffic. I have to cater for the season. Well, I am talking about blogs with other niches, not boring how to make money blogs. I need to know what are the commons things women want to know. Sometimes, to cater for them, I am risking people misunderstand me.

For example, I know a lot of insecure women wants to know how to tighten their vagina. LOL. So, I make sure that I have the bases covered (pun intended) by having a post in almost all the related blogs. Sometimes, I churn out new posts based on something I just read or ideas that cropped up. Regular blog buddies may get suspicious with the amount of posts I keep writing about tightening vagina. I hope no one assume anything. Hahaha. All for SEO sake, ok?

40% reading. Things change very fast. What one blog guru said may actually be bull craps to another. So, always have a broad range of SEO blogs in your RSS. Absorb what they say but always be on the look out for other differing opinions. I have seen some fanbois going gaga over just one or two and oh boy, do they make a fool of themselves. Read blogging tips, read the latest news of your niches, read your competitors blogs… Oh well, we are not in business so we have no competitors but there are blogging peers that are on par with us so it is always good to sniff out what their next strategy is and where they are learning them from. You know the art of war, know yourself and know your enemies well.

And we only need to write 10%. What’s the point of putting out a masterpiece all the time? The search engines only catch our keywords. Of course, you need to create that aura or brandname so that other type of blog , i.e. the personal blog plays by a different rule altogether.
