So, how much are you paying for bank charges for US checks?

Many people have asked me this question. I am shy to say that I still stick to MayBank because it is convenient for me. You see, the cheques I received are not in my name (don’t ask why). So, I had it banked where it belongs. The freaking bank charges USD20 per cheque, irrespective of the amount. In total, I paid about RM65 per cheque.

Then, another bunch of cheques are in my name. And I only have a joint account in UOB which of course, is another exorbitant priced establishment. Again, I paid about the same amount. The USD 20 is because the cheques are couriered all the way back to US and back again for verification and clearance. Big DOH!

Some bloggers claimed they pay only RM10 for bank charges. I still don’t believe them until today. So, tell me, how much are you paying for bank charges for each USD cheques? I am supposed to move my lazy butt to CIMB to open an account but as I said, not all the cheques are in my name and my dear accountant hubby said it is too much work for him to open an account just for the savings of merely ringgit. Go figure.

    Use HSBC la …
Cost you around Rm 12 for each clearing.

Others I heard quite good is CIMB but their service very terrible. I had an argument with the security guard in CIMB Bayan Lepas Sunshine Square branch for scolding me …

The bloody asshole shouted at me … who told you that you can take the number yourself ? After you fill in the form and I will issue you the number. Damn stupid .. they should hide the machine from public.

    Never been so hot !

At first my mood was so damn good going to CIMB branch to get $$$ from Adsense. I am part of their Western Union pilot user. No cheque clearing … just give me some code, you can take money already …

oh no, I cannot believe you are wasting USD20 for each cheque! Come on, why don’t you believe us? CIMB charge RM10 for clearing each cheque(under USD1000). I use CIMB from my 1st cheque till now, never got problem.

Read my post “Best Malaysia Bank to Deposit Adsense Cheque” for a list of local bank s fees.

    Helo brother,
Is it still valid for CIMB just to charged RM10 for US/ UK Cheque?

Also, do you have any idea/information about the Bank Wired transfer?

    Thanks

As you said you have a solution for the your cheques, open a single bank account. However this doesn’t solve you other problem of cashing cheques in another name. 20 dollars a cheque seems rather expensive, are there any cheaper means of doing it online?
