Windows XP Professional operating system (OS) – Are you using the pirated copy? Read then..

I don’t have Windows XP because I am using a Mac machine. However, if you are using a pirated copy, then you may want to read this :

PETALING JAYA: Starting Wednesday, users with pirated copies of Microsoft Corp’s Windows XP Professional operating system (OS) on machines that are Internet-capable could find their computer displays going black and with no screen icons visible.

There are 8.6 million users of Win XP Pro in Malaysia and about three million are expected to suffer the “blackouts,” according to Microsoft Malaysia.

To continue working, the user would need to reset the machine’s desktop background. Everything will return to normal. But when 60 minutes are up, the black screen will reappear and the user must go through the whole process again.

This will keep happening until the user licenses the copy of Win XP Pro on the machine by going to a Microsoft reseller or getting a licence online at the www.microsoft.com/malaysia/genuine. Each licence costs RM580.

Anyway, I read that some people claimed that this move is probably to “herd business users into upgrading to its newest operating system, Windows Vista, which hasn’t garnered interest among companies because of its higher hardware requirements.”

Well, I must say Windows Vista sucks. Sony Vaio sucks. My Sony Vaio with licensed copy of Windows Vista is my footstool now. Mac rocks. Muahaharrr…

I must agree with what is said above about herding business users into upgrading. I’ll add the home users in as well.

With every release of windows , the hardware requirement gets higher ,which is uncharacteristic of an efficient operating system. Along with these higher requirements comes bugs , hidden settings and changes that are forced upon users. In layman’s terms we call these annoyances. From Windows 95 , 98 , NT , ME , 2000 untill XP there are workarounds for these annoyances. So before you worry about buying new hardwares to run Vista , try visit http://www.annoyances.org

You will find many workarounds for the annoyances encountered in Windows. Hope this helps and this is not an advert ^^

Microsoft is getting greedy.. I am a newbie to macs but I must say I like a mac anytime over a PC.. However now I am on a pc as I am in vacation and my mac is at home..

    How sad is that?

This is due to Microsoft updated their WGA for window XP.This update mimics the annoyances that Windows Vista users had to endure if their version of Windows Vista did not pass the WGA check.

Second annoyance is a persistent desktop notification in the lower right corner that display “You may be a victim of software counterfeiting. This copy of Windows did not pass genuine Windows validation”

This will make Uncle BG richer…
But if you installing your Windows XP from the recover CD, you need not worry as Micsosoft cannot track the authenticity of the copy as no license key is required during/after the installation.

Damn, the OEM Winxp home are cheap ~RM250-300. Why people still want to use pirated winxp pro, their home pc don’t need those extra features!

Suppose it comes down to those who see nothing wrong with buying counterfeit, whether it’s clothes, music, bags or software!

It seems like Microsoft is getting aggresive. Those of you using privated Windows might want to consider switching to Linux if you don’t want to pay a hefty price! :)
By the way, initially I hated Vista but after using it for 4 months, i’m starting to like it. The only problem is it’s quite slow even on my new compaq laptop! But powerup and restart are much faster than XP which takes forever to load especially if you have installed many apps.

A lot had been spoken about people using pirated copies of MS operating system. For a PC to run on MS software the ordinary school students may not have the money to load use MS WinXp and MS office suite. May I suggest that those who are now using pirated copies, can forget about MS software. Use Linux operating system. You can download for free or buy the program. Next download open office for Linux. It is free. Another suggestion is to use the genuine copy of WinXp. Of course you have to pay for this. Next download OPEN OFFICE Suite for windows (for ever free)and install in your machine. By this method, you pay only for the WinXp OS. The rest are all free. By the way, if you buy a PC the genuine WinXp OS is already provided. So you only need to download and install Open Office Suite.
