Although I disagree about 'elitist' words ... readers don't want to be overwhelmed with a million words they've never encountered before, but they don't want to be underwhelmed by the type of vocabulary you'd find in Newsweek, either. Still, I'm always far more impressed with the way people express their thoughts, and connect them with other ideas, than which particular set of words they use. Absolutely!
