Paula Mooney says 5xmom earns USD16,200

I managed to pick up through Net Monetization’s site that my personal blog 5xmom was picked up by Paula Mooney.

Firstly, Net Monitization made a survey and found that of all the 120 bloggers mentioned by Paula who made money blogging, 88 of them uses WordPress own hosting blog. This is a ratio of 3:1 between bloggers who use WordPress self-hosting and Blogger’s Blogspot. He found that none uses Typepad or WordPress.com. So, my question to you – Have you got your own domain and hosting yet?

Now, on to Paula Mooney. She picked up that I am estimated to earn USD16,200 per annum. Actually, this is a very conservative figure because it is sourced only from PayPerPost based on my June’s income. Well, I make good income from TextLinkAds, other paid posts and Adsense as well. :P So, yeah, USD16K is the minimum I earn. Hehehe, don’t believe me? Google ‘how to make money’ or some keywords like ‘make money’ and tell me who is on the first page?

I have come to the realization that the most rewarding thing about being mentioned like this is the confidence it gives me to encourage other bloggers to start looking at blogging as an income earner. I met many young people today in the Penang Bloggers gathering and a couple of them asked, “I heard you are Penang top blogger?”

Without second thought, I told them, “Not only that, I am Malaysia’s top fifty and maybe top twenty bloggers.” Many may see this as being arrogant but when I told them in a serious manner as a way of encouraging them to hone their blogging skills, I think I have done my part in encouraging others to improve. I know what I shared in this blog has helped a lot of people to finally rake in US dollars (which is 3.4 times more than our local currency, i.e. USD1 = RM3.4). Whether they learnt it directly from me or through their friends who heard it from me, I can stand tall and believe I have done some good.

For that, I thank God He has blessed me with skills that I hope to share with others.

    Hi 5xMom,
Thanks for dropping by. I have updated the figures slightly, out of the 88 bloggers I looked at there are 68 using WordPress and 20 using Blogger so actually the ratio is almost 3.5:1. Also most of the bloggers using WordPress are in the top half of the table, Blogger becomes more popular in the lower half of the table, probably because the people blogging are newer.

Congratulations on the excellent site, I shall be back to see what useful tips I can find.

I do have a domain and blogspot as well. I really hope that I can be half skillful like you in earning by blogging. I really hope to work it as full time but I’m in a struggle to push up my page rank, so that I get more opportunities to write. That makes me stop thinking of giving up my teaching career.

Anyway, congrat for being so successful! :)

Wow, it must be exciting for you guys in Malaysia to earn US$16k kind of $. At least we Americans are providing income for oversea people. Hope not all people think we are all bad :)-
Must be nice to earn more than RM$100k a year ! Not a lot of people in Malaysia can do it. Kudos !!!!

mott – Cheers to making money!

paris – I use WP Cache there and it is rather screwed. And problem is I don’t know how to undo it. LOL.

cifra – Good for you! It is cool to have our own domain. It is cheap to acquire one too.

vedis – You must ask LiewCF and now Hongkiat for advice lor. Hahaha, I am already fulltime mom when I turn to blogging. i don’t think I will dare to take the bold step too if I am working.

kenny – LOL, you are such good supporter, I am so glad already. No charge lah, not ever. Hahaha.

zeo – Yalor, untuk anak. Jet dari toys r us. LOL.

ahpek – You is and was my buddy. I think we got the courage to venture with our peer support hor?

andrew – We must call all the probloggers together one day and grill them for encouragement hor? But you can refer back to LiewCF and Kahsoon earlier posts when they were trying to make the decision. It was many years ago, I think about 2 years?

adam – Yeah, since October 2006. I was hoping to do it by end June, just for motivation sake. Hahaha, I like to set targets.

    terence – CKT can ah?

I love your site and entries – what a work of art and you deserve so many kudos. As a new senior, European blogger I found it difficult to start – there’s so much information to take omboard. I was stupid to start and jumped in first instead of learning the ropes. So I’ve gone back to basics of organizing and planning first.
I’d certainly welcome some small level of success – but nothing comes from nothing. Thanks so much for your insights and for sharing.

jamy, we Malaysians provide products for Americans, and sometimes, income/profits for Americans too ;-)

no, not bashing Americans, but we Malaysians paid Americans quite handsomely too every year, for education, technology, service, tourism etc. And our entrepreneurs invest a lot in the US too.

who’s fault if Americans look bad all the time? (and particularly portrayed as such in local mainstream media).

better stop here — wrong forum!

Just wanna add one thing for 5xmom: it’s a good idea to DIVERSIFY. you can’t put all eggs in one basket, ie. over-reliance to US greenbacks.

Can you share with us how do you declare income tax for a Malaysian who makes full time earning from adsense and affliates? I’ve been searching on the net for this information, but I couldn’t find any. I made a decent living from online money but I have no idea what are the procedures if I want to buy properties or apply for foreign visas.Do you declare it under self entrepreneur?
