Online blogging for Google Adsense and pagerank

06Oct What is your highest income from a single Google Adsense click?

We have read so much bullshits from internet marketeers who bluffed that they make tens of thousands USD from Google Adsense. It is always the ‘buy our program, instal and within 3 minutes, you will be making money from Google Adsense’.

Those are total lies. But if you have a lot of money to spare and experiment, by all means, indulge in it. However, do not get conned into parting with your money if you can ill afford it because they NEVER work. Ahahaha, talking from experience, so value it.

So, what I learnt from making money with Google Adsense is :

1) You need a site that attracts organic traffic, i.e. traffic from random surfers looking for something.

2) You need unique sites but even personal blog will do if you happen to hit on something that people search for. Eg. one day you may be talking about some bald politicians and in the post, you mentioned about wigs. So, let’s pretend that post was picked up by Google and appeared on the search result for wigs, you may have hit the golden goose and make lots of money from there.

3) You need lots of traffic to collect 3 cents to add up to 30 cents to add up to USD3 to ….etc etc.

Now, back to my question - What is your highest income from a single click on Google Adsense. You have heard internet marketeers boasting getting USD100 per click. You definitely have seen them posting screenshots and swearing over their mother’s grave that it is the truth that they do get shit loads of USD10 clicks. But my dear friends, in the real world where I lived in, the highest click I get so far is only a miserably USD3.69 per click. That is considered good for me because it is RM10+ in my currency. However, that happens as often as once in a blue moon.

So, what’s yours?

05Oct Long time no boast ‘How much money I make’

With my low profile, I guess all my detractors are sniggering behind my back that I am now ‘eating shit’ (meaning in the dumps) as I hardly make money anymore.

However, it is a choice I made because when I work too hard, I have no time for myself to waste leisurely and I have no time for God. Nowadays, I spend three times a week at a cancer hospital and during those times, I probably missed out a lot of paid posts to grab. Moreover, I have to sleep early so that I can wake up to go to ‘work’. But those experiences from my voluntary work is something money cannot buy. It is so enriching and I am blessed that with the right connection, I was able to do voluntary pastoral care in a cancer unit.

The other deal is I have to totally cut off all my online work if I am interested to pursue the course full time. The course I intended to pursue demands my full commitment and concentration. I cannot do that at the moment because it means too much sacrifice as it is a source of income for my family. I hope to be able to survive without paid posts and my sites all generate income on its own without me meddling on them. I have faith God will find a way for me, if God wants me to fully concentrate on doing godly things like that.

So, are you curious to know how much I made nowadays? Well, below is the screenshot. Remember that payment comes in on the first of the month and I have another batch that comes in around 10th of the month. Then, there is Google Adsense plus Nuffnang.

5xmom_income.jpg
(breakdown of income has been blanked out because it is against some of the companies’ policies to reveal how much I made from each of them. I can only withdraw USD495 per day from Paypal to my Al Rajhi debit card)

That’s right, I am making meagre sum but this paltry sum is enough to feed my whole family. So, thank God for that.

So, how are you getting on with your online income? Are you making money from blogs? Does the strengthening of the USD gives you joy that you are going to make better income? I certainly do. I am not worried about increasing interest rates because I lived in a tiny home with a cheap car, all paid for. I have no credit card debts or any other debts. The higher the interest rates are, the better because my savings including EPF will garner more income. So, spend money prudently and you won’t get into deep shits if recession hits us. I had been there in the last recession in the 80s and people lost their jobs, properties and people suffered a lot. Be prepared for that. Making money online is a good option. Especially if you are making USD.

01Oct Selamat Hari Raya to all Muslim readers

Today is October 1st 2008. It is Hari Raya here and I wish to send my salam to all Muslim readers, bloggers and friends. Selamat Hari Raya, maaf zahir dan batin.

This also means three quarter of the year is gone. I never calculate how much I had made online these nine months but I am assured of some basic income, whether I blog or not. So, I must thank God for that.

I won’t be updating these few days because I have some stuffs to do. Stuffs like doing physical things that are not related to online matters. I hope I won’t miss my blog too much.

Till then, enjoy the ketupat and rendang, lemang and serunding, dodol and everything.

29Sep The exchange rate I get from Western Union/CIMB is only RM3.31=USD1 - What’s yours?

I just cashed out my Google Adsense income from CIMB through Western Union bank and the rate is USD1 equivalent to RM3.31 only. Chey, I was expecting RM3.45. Hehehe, I know, I know, higher rate spells bad news for our country but then, what the heck? I am not the Finance Minister of Malaysia, you know?

I asked Bank Simpanan Nasional and apparently, the rate is the same. I am not sure how true is this. They said the exchange rate is fixed on the day Western Union wired over the money and not the current day exchange rate, i.e. the day we go to the bank to cash out.

Anyone knows if this is true? Have you cashed out your Adsense this month and what exchange rate did you get?

27Sep While I was sleeping, there was a Google pagerank massacre….

*jeng jeng jeng* Google came earlier than I expected. The last Google pagerank update was on July 27th. Barely two months, Google pagerank update is here again.

This time around, I lose some, I gain some. This blog pagerank drops a notch. And so did a few other blogs.

The blogs without pagerank and which I have been doing paid posts remain pagerank zero.

So, yeah, Google pagerank is here again. Did you gain or lose?

27Sep What have I been doing while all of you are making money online?

While the rest of the world is making money online, I have been wandering around. September is probably the lowest income month this year. I didn’t write much paid posts because I dissed many of the demanding advertisers who paid pennies and expect million hits.

sewer

So, I got back to my dear camera and took lots of photos. When I was busy making money, I lost my passion for photography or going out. Now that I have tapered down my internet activities, I have time to just do nothing all day. Took a photo of the manhole today because I notice the word SEWER. (MPPP is my city council) Of course, my blog is not going down the sewer. It is just my way of unwinding as I do some soul searching.

The nicest thing about making money through blogging is the flexibility we have. There are no bosses to answer to and there are no deadlines if we plan carefully. So, I have plenty of time to hang out at coffee joints and get fat over fattening latte.

I have lots of time to spend with my kid. He found an Alice in Wonderland door at a university we went. You know…the tiny door which only a hare can get in? Then, Alice took the magic pill and she became small?

Though my income is greatly reduced, I am not worried because there are certain ads that pay me even when I do nothing. Of course, I need to constantly update so that the traffic and ranking remains. With the high USD exchange rate, I am looking forward to get my Google Adsense payment. Woohoo, I would be getting several hundred extra in RM this month due to the higher USD. Forget about the impending recession because muahahahar…both hubby and I are jobless so we have no job to lose! Nice….*sings, Don’t worry, be happy…*

blue sky

I don’t know if I am going to bounce back with lots of make money ideas to share within these few days, before the month ends. I don’t think so because I have committed to prepare breakfast for 250 priests from my Catholic churches around the South-East Asia region starting Monday. That’s a once in a lifetime experience of doing something different.

So, have fun making money online while I smell the coffee, mend my tired soul and hope to catch up soon. Remember to take time to smell the roses, ok?

18Sep Why must we track our traffic?

A few of you have asked and some emailed me to ask why I am so dependent on tracking my blog traffic. Sorry I never got around to reply the emails because I was rather busy with the candlelight vigils and the much awaited change of Government. Still waiting with bated breath and keeping my eyes on the latest news.

So, why do we need to track our blog traffic? I have written a post title “How do I increase traffic to my website or blog.” In Step Two and Step Six, I talked about tracking blog traffic.

STEP TWO - Put a stat counter to track traffic

Instal a stat counter. You can get it free from a few sites. I stick with Sitemeter and other bloggers like StatCounter.

After you have set up a blog, you will need to know if your blog is read by anyone. That’s why it is essential to put a stat counter. Otherwise, how will you know if you are getting any traffic? If you use Wordpress.com, i.e. the free wordpress, they have a stat analysis for you. Otherwise, sign up for the basic, free account with Sitemeter, Statcounter or others to get the code and paste it to your blog. At the same time, sign up with Google Webmaster Central for a more detailed analysis.

And in :

STEP SIX - Watch your blog traffic like a hawk, analyse

Start getting obsessed with your stat counter. Look if you have any visitors. Search where they come from. And when you first get your very first organic traffic, then, celebrate.

Note that these steps are more for those who wish to make money through blogging. If you are writing a personal blog and couldn’t care less about traffic, then, forget about traffic.

I rely heavily on my Sitemeter because I usually have some tricks which are secrets to bait for traffic. I need to know if the fishes are biting, you see. At the same time, I have the perverted obsession of getting on front page on search results. For example, I wrote a post on the DPM Najib blog and this morning, I found that I have reached #1 for my personal blog and #3 for this blog for certain keywords.

In other words, with traffic analysis, I can use it to gauge the effectiveness of my SEO efforts. At the same time, I know if people dissed or praised me because I can see traffic coming from other URLs.

I have many blogs and each of them have a few pages which attract a lot of traffic. With stat counter, I know if I am hot, or not. Hehehe.
