This is an excellent tip for beginners to blogging. Never, ever write to someone and ask,
“Can we do link exchange? After you link me, I will link you.”
My answer, “Can you go far-far and play? Those are kids’ stuffs. Hrmmpphh….!”
Why? This is not being obnoxious. But the person is being rude. You see, I do not know you. If you think my blog is great, just go ahead and link my blog. Usually, the blogger you linked will eventually notice through their stats and they will check out your blog and courtesy and basic human manners will get you a link, without asking.
Or they may not link you. Just yesterday, I notice a link from a masturbation site! OMG, I don’t know to feel flattered or feel worried. The site is decent looking and not porn-ish. They linked my 5xmom‘s site. I don’t have the faintest idea why they like my site because I have nothing to do with masturbation, ok? (except for one word of masturbation left in this post comment) But I do rule in chinese pussy (willow, the flower). When I am being generous, I will probably add their link into one of my post and hope Google won’t smack me for being ‘dirty’. But serious, the site is decent, written in a very technical way.
So, n00bs, NEVER ASK PEOPLE TO LINK YOU FIRST SO THAT YOU WILL LINK THEM BACK. If you want to link someone, just freaking go ahead and do it and hope they notice you. If your site has decent traffic and is equally good, people will link you. No need to ask.
Pardon the rant but with the number of blogs I have, I am sick and tired of ignoring mails like these. Sometimes, they even mailed me reminders. Ptui!

(July 27, 2007 - 2:44 pm)I made one or two (or perhaps slightly more than that) kinda request when I started out blogging. Later, I realised that it’s not really part of good mannerism in the world of blogging.

(July 27, 2007 - 5:08 pm)There was a fellow blogger who asked me to have link exchange in my shoutbox. I said okay initially, but after 5 minutes or so, I took my word back and said no. Haha. Thing is, I don’t link blogs that I don’t even read mar :P

No, you’re not lansi. When you link someone, it’s a kind of affirmation about the other party. How can you affirm when you don’t know them? :-)

(July 30, 2007 - 7:23 am)I have a number of blogs on different topics. If someone leaves a comment, I check out their blog and if it’s interesting or the person seems genuine, I will link to their blog and comment on one of their posts in one of mine. If I am feeling generous or it’s a really good blog, I’ll link from one of my higher PR blogs as well. I think it’s good karma. What goes round comes round.

The thing about link exchange is, it revolves around moral, and moral revolves around your desire.
if both of you want the links for the good of high influx why not.
if you want it for future reading or friendship than you have the right to object it.
the other person only doing it because morally its ok for him/her to do that because thats what he wants. its just maybe the way he/she ask was a bit not nifty
