Have you submitted your site to DMOZ?

It is rather peculiar. I have like 15 domains and only one of my site was submitted to DMOZ. Back then, three years ago, I don’t give much thought to SEO stuffs and was too lazy to submit my sites. Only my food blog, Food Haven was listed on DMOZ directory.

DMOZ was not open for submission and only open again for submission. I heard about it from Colleen on her GeekySpeaky blog who heard it from Jules.

I heard but not sure if it is entirely true that having our blogs listed in DMOZ will help in SEO. Well, I must first tell you that it is NOT EASY to add your site because you must read through all the rules and know where you site fits in.

I was trying to submit my church’s website The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Penang, Malaysia and had to figure out long and hard where to place it. I chosed :
Society > Religion > Denomination > Catholic > Church

I hope I got the right placement.

Like I said, please read through all the do’s and don’ts first and make sure you put your blog into the right place. Otherwise….what may happen, I don’t know. Maybe they will smack your butt, p’haps? Hehehe. Read this tips – Search Engine Rules – first before you proceed. (got the link from GeekySpeaky)

And yeah, don’t get lost in the jungle. It is utterly confusing, I tell you. I only have brain cells to submit two sites and will do the rest next time.

I got my sites listed in Dmoz but later dropped after they clean it up. If too much ads shown, they will reject.

If you have money, go for Yahoo Directory, $299 per year. It is an authority site for Yahoo Search Engine … try 1 year and you decide to continue or not. I have

Also, the latest Wiki spamming strategy also busted. All the external links will carry nofollow href. So, it will not give you any advantage in SEO right now.

The best I have tried is … buy text link but not through TLA. I have been using TLA for 1 year, not to mention the amount of $$$ I spend. It is not really that effective compared to buying links from a website that similiar to our market.

david – tks for the tips. I have heard of Yahoo Directory and must make some calculations to see if I can afford that amount. LOL.

wahlau – I think they are pretty elitist, pick and choose. But for non-profit site, I bet they will include them on their listing.
