Google Pagerank going up, going down – Do you really care?

Once upon a time, I really live, breath, think, sleep and practically get my aunties’ panties (just because it rhymes, not that I wear one like that hehehe)  in a wad whenever there is an imminent PR shake-up.

Then, after owning like over a dozen websites, majority of them hosted on my own, I realised something :

1) PR 4/10 is easy peasy to achieve if your blog has decent traffic;

2) You can shoot from 0/10 to 4/10 within a month;

3) You can drop a notch or two if your blog starts to sucks.  (i.e. too many paid posts and stupid memes with long, long train of URL)

4) You can work till you die and you are going to remain at 4/10 or 5/10.  I gave up already.  I no longer care anymore.  And you know what?  The world still revolves.

5) The only ways to increase your PR are :

a) Get higher ranking blogs to link you, aka suck-up and polish them alot and very often;

b) Don’t do paid post (but is it worth it when the money are there for the picking?)

c) Don’t sell text link ads and don’t link too many people;

Ultimately, I realised that I don’t care anymore.  And those PR predictions tools are total bullshits.  My advice – The PR will come when it comes.  Meantime, just forget it.  Heh, as if you can.

If you are still desperate, go join that BobMeetsWorld – Google PageRank?  Get over it.

Oh did I also mention that only n00bs get excited over PR?  Yeah, yeah, I am mean.  ‘Cos blogs  get boring when   too many people write about the same stuffs.

    Haha…carelah for me…;D

    But like you said, work hard on producing quality posts and have multiple niche blogs first…I am working on them now.

    Yeah, I couldn’t be bothered liao, really. That’s why I enabled the DoFollow plugin as well so that I can give out PR love to whoever leaves a comment or are linked.

    Agreed. I was quite hyped about it before, and now, bloody hell, I really can’t care less anymore. If you get it, you get it, if you don’t, *shrug* oh well, there’s always other things to do

    I totally agree with the PR4 part. So it’s really nothing to shout about or even check ever so often nowadays.

    And most important is get higher ranked websites/blogs to link back to you. Why do you think they are so picky? :P

    So aunty, when you going to link to me? LOL!

    But PR would definitely affect your monthly earnings. Unless you do not monetize your blog at all.

    High Page Rank doesn’t mean high search ranking. PageRank has only ever been an approximation of the quality of a web page and has never had anything to do with the measuring of the topical relevance of a web page.

    You shouldnt really be concerned about your page rank at all as long as you are ranking well. Surely conversions and profit are better than a little green bar. Work on building good links by writing excellent content and getting it out there to similar mediums. Even ask more popular bloggers to do a sponsored post on their blog for example.

    Agree with you 100%. I’ve spent too much time worrying about it .. and now I just can’t be bothered any more.

    You know what…I quit worrying about pagerank as of today. I was scanning the serps and found that many of my competitors are ranking closely behind me with no page rank whatsover. Not 0 pagerank, just the old grey bar. How can you rank in google without a pagerank at all? Seems counterintuitive to me.

    I work for an internet marketing/search engine marketing company and I can say that people are too obsessed with their PageRank. I think people are obsessed with their PageRank because of a few following factors:

    1) They think it’s the only ranking system – it is not! PageRank is merely one of the ways search engines rank your website. There is more to search engine algorithms than PageRank.

    2) It is possibly the only visible and reliable ways of calculating rank. By the way, Alexa’s ranking is unreliable, but unfortunately that’s the only way we can truly get ranking and traffic for your site without delving into your servers.

    Well you can make nice money off selling text links as soon as you hit PR5 or 6 .. people are still crazy for high PR backlinks ;)

    PR is solely about the quality and quantity of the pages that link to you. But PR is not a great indicator of a site or even how it will rank in the search engines.

    […] MILLION and I am on #1 again – Google page rank going up going down. Heh. Sorry I have to blur the keywords ‘cos those are trade secrets. […]
