Get your own domain, NOW!

It is such a pity that many good blogs with great contents are given the miss by advertisers because they are hosted on the wrong platform.

If you are serious about blogging, get your own domain and don’t rely on freebies. If you want to earn money, you have to invest. Way back in 2003, I had to fork out RM200 in cash, secretly, without my hubby’s knowledge because I couldn’t let the group of mothers in my Yahoo email group down. They needed a support group/forum and the only way is to get my own site.

I needed to pay for webhosting and I wasn’t earning anything. My hubby will give the disapproving look if I should tell him that I am spending it on something that I do not foresee to profit me in anyway.

Let me remind you that back then, there is no Google. No monetizing blogs. Or at least, I was too ignorant. Anyway, I still managed to get the RM200, passed it in person to the guy who helped me (when hubby wasn’t looking :P) to get the domain and like they say, the rest is history.

Some of these moms are now running their own homebased businesses and they chipped in with advertisement fees to help me tide through after the first year. My fees are so cheap, now I don’t even bother to invoice and collect money from them. Hehehe. Instead of me chasing them for payment, they kept writing to me to ask where to pay. Which I am not accepting.

So, all of those who are now writing great contents and can afford RM200, I strongly urge you to stop writing from WordPress.com or Blogger because trust me, in the long run, you will gain the benefits.

I was asked to provide a list of bloggers from a certain category and sadly, I can only come up with 10 domains because everyone is on Blogspot and WordPress.com. The big change is coming and we must jump on our own domain because people prefer the security of your own site, not some unpredictable free hosting.
