For whom do you blog?

Do you blog for yourself?

Do you blog to share your information, i.e. the targetted group?

Do you blog for your friends?

Do you blog for fame?

Or do you blog for the search engines?

If you are thinking of making money from blogging, the last option is what you should focus on.

Blogging for self will not make you rich.

Blog for the targeted group is not only full of pressure because they expect you to keep out perform  your previous post but they also ignore your ads.

Blogging for friends is such a waste of time because 10 may like it and suddenly one will break you.

Blogging for fame is downright foolish because you have to make a complete fool of yourself before you get famous, usually. Either post a naked photo of yourself, make yourself look like an idiot or portray yourself to be a total bitch (think Perez).

So, folks, one good tip you should keep chanting to yourself. Blog for the search engines. It doesn’t matter which niche topic. Know what the search engines, i.e. the million of internet users, are looking for. And you will soon see traffic and money trickling in. Bit by bit but you will get there eventually.

However, that said, you need to achieve a balance by having friends, touch base with your own needs and feelings and have the desire to be a little famous, at least. And of course, you need good contents too.

And the only way I can achieve the balance is of course, create several niche blogs and compartmentalize my thoughts. Now when I look at my own blogs aggregator, I see a pattern there. It is a whole potpourri of my thoughts, broken down into different blogs.

Fair point – blog for the search engines – but unless you blog about something which you are interested in your readers will pick up on it and abandon your blog in droves.

I agree with most of your arguments.
Blogging for search engines is the best way to do. From my own experience 95% of my visitors being referred by search engines. So, I don’t need to bother of what other people think as long as the search engines are happy with my blog.

For whom do I blog? Considering my niche, blogs are for search engines. For the purpose of expressing my totality, I want to make a bridge to other people’s thoughts and feelings.

Blogging was introduced to me by my friend. She used blogs for personal and some how to be known in the blogging world. But I definitely used blogs because of all choices above: for myself, for friends, for information, for fame and for search engines. And I think that is blogging is all about.
