Why I tak tahan local Malaysia advertisers

I am going to rant. I cannot tak tahan. I love their money but I also got feelings wan, you know……

Local advertorial pays well. But you have to be some elitist bloggers (like me me me hehehe) to be noticed by local companies. Nay….don’t worry, no companies have ever noticed this blog so I can rant all I want.

Here are some of the reasons why I beh tahan local advertisers :

1) They do not know what a blog is. It is not some magazine or newspaper, darn it! You advertise on a blog to gain search engine traffic. Nowadays, people use the internet to search for things. They use Yahoo, Google, MSN and etc to find something. So, if you are going to pour your money in advertising, you better know what are some of the keywords your clients and customers are looking for.

2) You big corporate companies cannot rely on the celeb factor to influence people to buy your products. Bloggers are just errm…humans. Forget the same old marketing strategy of using celebrities to endorse your products and services already! Doh….you think we still care about these? Nowadays, celebrities are just pieces of yesterday news (I want to say a piece of crap but I am fearful….hehehe). You think people still care if Charmaine Sheh or Sammy Cheng endorse a product? Nah, we do not. Same goes for bloggers. And I tell you, if you pay premium price for the so-called ‘femes’ factor, you may be buried 6 feet under if that blogger did something that does not favour your company. Say you ask him/her to help advertise some alcohol ads (which btw, I don’t accept alcohol or tobacco related ads because it is against Google) , and next day that blogger killed someone in a drunk driving accident. How? Hamkarchan! Right?

3) Using the influence status of bloggers, you only get limited numbers of people interested in your products. Even Che Det aka Tun Dr. Mahathir, who is supposedly having the highest traffic to his blog, have just a certain number of people.

So, what can I offer for local Malaysian companies who wish to use blog advertising? Here you go….

a) Think out of the box. What are the most likely words or questions your potential customers use when they want to search for your company? Make sure you tell the bloggers to use those words.

b) Stop giving bloggers grandma stories of your corporation because hey, we are not so free to read through every darn news release, press conference, product description to write a 200-300 words blog post, you know?

c) Ask your staffs to sit down and start searching for your company’s products. Tell them to note down those local Malaysian blogs that appear on the first few pages of the search results on Google, Yahoo and MSN (three of Malaysia’s favourite search engines) and ask Nuffnang (which is a middleman company between bloggers and advertisers) to contact these bloggers.

d) An advertorial on the internet is almost for life. Our advertorial do not get flushed down the toilet the next day. We stay permanently. So, invest on bloggers to advertise your products and services and stay away from print media, especially those much hated mainstream media already!

Phew…rant finish. Si peh beh tahan with advertisers who keep changing their minds, asking for re-write or loading me with lots of things to read and refer. Doh…trust me to bring your company to the first page of search result, ok?

Celebrating milestone is very important for make money bloggers

For make money bloggers like me, it is very important to note down all the milestones I achieve because it is an indication that things are going forward. Sometimes, the milestone can be as big as achieving the first USD15K at PayPerPost or RM20K at Nuffnang. By the way, I have long surpassed the RM20K at Nuffnang but I have kept a low profile over it as those are taxable income. If you make RM30K or more in a year, you have to declare your taxes, ok?

Sometimes, the milestone is just a baby step like making the first USD10. Big or small, it is good to pride ourselves so that we will continue to work harder to achieve bigger milestone.

Today, I am going to celebrate the first time I make USD100 in a month from Chitika. Since I installed Chitika Premium Ads, my ads income from Chitika has increased several folds.

It is very encouraging and I hope this income will continue to increase in the coming months.

The year is drawing to an end soon but I have yet to check the total amount of money I made online this year. Hopefully, when I have got rid of this flu that I am currently suffering from, I will be able to take stock and see how much I reaped from making money online. It is definitely less than 2007 and I hope 2009 will not drop further.

Well…if you are in the MMO and knows SEO, you will probably learn some things from here. If this post gives you the WTF and WTH, then, sorry lah. Hard to explain in this post.

Anyway…….OT, I just want to note down that after our PM has his own Warkah Untuk Pak Lah, our Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak too set up his own website. It is not Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak blog as it is more of a website style.

fake comment and hate comment.. which is worse? :P (vkeong)

On impersonal blogs like this make money or my recipe blog, I don’t get hate comments. But on my personal blog, sometimes I do intentionally stir shits to get excitement in the blogosphere. So, I would say, fake comment is boring because I need to delete them and hate comment is fun when it is me who instigate it.

I’m curious to know what happen to your smorty… u just ignored the warning? I’m planning to change my domain and hosting but afraid that i’ll have to refund the review money. How about PPP and SP? (slowcatchupkuan)

I never log in anymore. I still ‘owe’ them money but who cares…I have no intention of monetizing those blogs. However, in future, if I have any other new blogs, I can always open a new account. Muahahar..

For Linkworth, we just have to wait. In fact, we always have to wait for advertisers so it is a bit depressing when no one buys. I have a section for Linkworth with all the tutorials which I hope to help.

Why can we sell text link ads? Some say text link ads is good to us to get back link.

Nasrun, Google does not allow us to sell text links which leaks link juice. That means, if my blog has a PR 4, I cannot sell my links or I will get smack. But there are methods which I shall not reveal here. Do look through my old posts and see the various methods. I do not sell any text link ads on my selected blogs but I do sell it on other ‘unseen and unknown’ blogs. You can join Socialspark but I doubt you can find much paid posts because all advertisers want are pages with pagerank.

The next pagerank update probably is coming soon because the last one was April 30th. But don’t have too much hope of getting a pagerank cos Google is very strict. You need traffic, you need good relevant content and people linking to you.

I’m just starting on this, do they accept blogger blog? (blackcat)

I don’t think LinkXL works on blogger blog yet. But Kontera does.

Claiming money hassles

I have often written about preparing wills, buying insurance and stuffs like that. However, I didn’t know that it is such a hassles to clear up those necessary paperworks when a person died. Recently, my bro-in-law passed away after a short struggle with liver and kidney cancer. When he found out about his illness, he immediately arranged all the necessary paperworks. He was rather young, being only 53 years old and hence, didn’t do it earlier.

One of the plan he bought was the MRTA whereby his housing loan is fully settled after his death. Now, the insurance company and bank which provides the bank loan is creating a huge problems for his widow, who is my hubby’s sister. The bank wants all kind of documents, many of which had been surrendered to the authorities when they prepare his death certificate.

I didn’t know one can face so many daunting tasks like asking the cremation centre for a copy of the burial/cremation certificate, getting back a copy of his identity card which had been taken by the registration department and etc etc. It is certainly not a nice thing having to dig back all these documents from places which leave some sad memories to the widow.

Now, come to think of it, I think it is better off cashing back as much money as we can when we are alive and give it to our next of kin instead of waiting for them to claim when we passed on. Of course, that is provided we can afford to do that. Like for example, there is the cash for settlements where people can get a lump sum of cash instead of waiting for the periodic payment which may not offer the financial help one needs at that time. Then, there is the method of getting payment when we sell annuity .

Though all these may not be a good idea if we intend to leave money for our next of kin, sometimes, people may have to resort to it because of urgent financial needs. For example, at one point, my relative needs $10K each month to take care of his cancer treatment. He couldn’t afford it after his insurance claims exceeded the amount and he opted for public hospital where they gave him palliative care. So, we never know when we may end up with the same situation. We are better off aware how to raise funds when the situation calls for it. Find out how one can also get help when one sell structured insurance .

These are all preparations for rainy days. Now that I am more aware of the hassles of claiming a deceased insurance, settling his loans, transferring his properties, I will make sure that my family is well covered with adequate will so that my lawyer can deal with all the legworks and getting the paperworks done. I certainly cannot bear to go through so many departments and authorities if I am recently bereaved. My sister-in-law is lucky she has her brother (my husband) to do all the forms and etc for her.
