New Sitemeter sucks – Is there a better choice?

I like Sitemeter because it provides me real time site traffic information like ‘Referral’ and ‘Who on’? From it, I know if my page has been picked up by some of the social bookmarking services, quoted by some popular blogs or I am having an avalanche of traffic due to other dirty tricks.

But today, Sitemeter has changed its format and it sucks! Whatever happened to those stats? Plus it takes a million years to get the information.

So, beside Google Analytics, does anyone know of any FREE but good and reliable stats meter?

One more thing – Sitemeter has changed the login and needs my email address to activate. The problem is I have forgotten all the emails I used. Blek.

Google Webmaster ‘Gadgets’

I just notice a new feature in Google Webmaster call the iGoogle Webmaster Tools Homepage.

I added it to my iGoogle and wow….I can now view all the data from my iGoogle. I no longer need to login to Google Webmaster. It is such a breeze to check my stats, data, most searched keywords….etc etc from iGoogle. Sorry I cannot provide a screenshot as those are things I prefer to keep private.

And I think I will soon go cuckoo with all these datas because I am totally addicted to staring at them, figuring out how to improve, what to do next and how to expand to get maximum traffic, maximum ads income and maximum everything.

If you are not exactly sure what I am talking about, just Google iGoogle and Google Webmaster Central. You need to know these if you are interested to make money blogging.

For example, the most basic is to know what are your hottest pages. Have your visitors come and go away with something useful? Are you giving them something that they want or do they leave with the WTF feelings?

Say it is ’smelly armpit’ that got them there, are you getting ‘how to make smelly armpits smell good’ ads? No? Then, improve your post and test again. Sometimes, I get hit by sheer luck over my inane ramblings. Many years later, people keep landing on that page. So, what I do is to add a few serious paragraph there to capture their interest. But not too much, make sure they want to find the next place to go to and that, is where Google Adsense becomes the exit door for them.

aLinks may make you an aList blogger

I discover through Pimp My Page Rank this plugin which will add links to our blog posts. (yayaya, I know this is nothing new but it is new to me) The Wordpress plugin aLinks is developed by Sean Hickey of HeadZoo.com.

I made a test post over at my personal blog and you can see the results.

This is just the screenshot :

The plugin comes with very detailed pdf file and agreement. You need to read them all to understand.

But basically, once we uploaded the plugin, we need to CHMOD some folders. Next, activate the plugin.

After that, we can add our preferred keyphrases and the link where we want the keyphrase to link to. You have a choice of opening the new link on a new page and also if you wish to have the little blue arrow to indicate it is a link.

Besides adding our own links, you can also add Amazon affiliate links.

The above shows some of the keyphrases and the links.

When I write a new posts, all those keyphrases will have the links inserted. You can also choose to add to your older posts.

Fantastic because :

1) Good for SEO

2) Ease of use because I don’t need to manually add my links

3) Encourage our readers to explore more of our blogs (but if you have only one blog, you can add certain keyphrases to the category or single post)

4) Great for those blogs catered to the noobies because those little arrows will prompt them to click. (yeah, my best income earner blogs are catering to noobies who didn’t notice I have a whole blog and not just that one single post they stumbled on. *roll eyes* They mail me to ask, “Can I ask if you have other recipes to share?” I have like 400 recipes there and they thought there is only one.*gags self to death*)

You may need to think twice :

1) if you are writing paid posts on those blogs because paid post companies do not allow you to add any other links than the advertisers into your post.

2) before you add too many useless keyphrases, causing your post to have too many annoying links like my test post shown above.

To get the best optimization, you may want to analyse your Google Analytics and Webmaster Central stats. Find out what are some of your blog strong points and keep working harder to jack up your SERPs.

Blogrush really sucks

Put back the widget or get kicks off their network. Sayonara, Blogrush. I have seen enough old posts from the same few elitists’ blogs to tell me that people game the system. Posts from smallish blog like mine will never, ever get on the widget. I didn’t even get 5 visits per day from Blogrush so why waste prime real estate? I am better off stuffing Adsense to the sidebar so that people can find their exit.

Are you banned or accepted into Blogrush?

I am back! Maybe I will post some photos later on to share what life without blogging is like.

Now, I am having a hangover and really do not feel like blogging, especially the ‘working blog’. However, something interesting happened. I read that JohnCow was banned from Blogsrush and I was like oh-oh, surely my blogs are banned too. I only submitted a few ’spammy’ blogs and had taken off blogrush widget from all my blogs.

However, I got a very fantastic mail.

We’ve just completed a massive SWEEP of our entire network. We’ve
removed over *10,000* blogs (Yes, ten thousand) that did not meet our
new Quality Guidelines.

We have done a huge “quality control audit” of our network and have
reviewed all the blogs one-at-a-time. We will continue to review each
NEW blog that is ever submitted to our network.

You will notice the HUGE DIFFERENCE in the quality of blogs that now
appear in your widget. This major *sweep* of our network will also
increase the click-rates across the entire network and you will start
to receive more traffic.

I haven’t decide if I am going to put the Blogrush widgets back to my blogs. What about you?
