Best bank to bank cheque from US – CIMB

I have to thank LiewCF for the tip on where to bank in our US cheques and get the best rate. Previously, I used Maybank and it was so expensive. Each cheque, regardless of the amount, I have to pay more than RM65 per cheque. I finally opened the account with CIMB in February and notice that CIMB really charge me RM10 for the bank charges and RM0.15 for the stamp they use to mail the bank in slip.

However, I am not sure if CIMB foreign exchange rate is the best because according to my husband who is an accountant, some banks give higher foreign exchange rate if the amount is huge. Anyway, for all these small amounts, I don’t get to negotiate much so I am happy with the RM10 charge instead of the exhorbitant charges from Maybank.

Can you share what is the rate our banks in Malaysia charge? Not that I want to open another account because I like CIMB as they are opened till late on Saturdays and even Sundays.

how do u bank in ur cheque? via cheque deposit machine or counter?

i opened my acc at KLCC, ppl there tell me to bank in foreign bank cheque via counter..and counter onli open weekdays… (they have special ppl working with the foreign bank cheque, who is not working on weekends, *sweat* ) so, no use to me even the bank is open during weekends.

But i still bank in my adsense cheque via machine… coz i really no time to bank in my cheque during weekdays.

cely – Yeah, need to go personally and sign at the back of the cheque for CIMB.

leah – With Maybank, it was very long, cos they claim they need to post the cheque to US for verificaiton *rolls eyes*. But with CIMB, I think only three weeks.

andrew – The rate keeps falling. Haih…

pablo – Hahaha, have to wait a longggg time for the first one to come but after that, it is quite constant.

kenny – Yeah, don’t go Maybank or UOB cos both charge sky high.

menj – Do they accept non-Muslims? I am really curious.

auntie, bank islam is only a name. they accept everyone in this world as their client. no problem about that. in fact, if you see the real situation, you will know that most of their members are chinese.
