Are you having too many blogs?

I read this post by Darren Rowse of Problogger.net on “How many blogs should you run?” and wish to ponder on my huge number of blogs.

He said :

If I were to start all over again today I’d do so by concentrating on building 1 blog at a time to a point where it hits the tipping point and can earn a decent income. I still would diversify with multiple sites – but would probably focus on making them all around the one vertical (ie related topics) rather than picking such a wide array of topics on unrelated niches.

And I realised that I am doing it right so far. I started with my personal blog at http:chanlilian.net and after a while, I realised that my readers will not like to see ‘What’s cooking today’ posts because they expect my regular rants on life and such. So, I went on to open a food blog which is now more than two years old. It was a sub-domain but I decided to get its own domain.

So – the number is now three:
1) Personal blog
2) Food Haven
3) Best Recipes

At that point, I realised that I can actually make money and decided to try out women stuffs. It so happens that Yahoo is selling domain names for USD1.99 and I grabbed three years of domain name.

Then, I found that I actually like to take photos and wish to show off my photos. And Digital Photo was born. Since I have already been immersed in championing breastfeeding and parenting, I simply must get a blog for it.

4) Women Only!
5) Digital Photo Tips
6) Mom’s Daily

But since I was a bereaved mom and knows how hard it is to find useful and helpful reading materials, I decided to gather all the info under one site. And since I have been familiar with taking of my critically ill son, I did the same for those parents with terminal ill children. Then, my faith prompted me to share my faith journey. These three are non money making blogs but things I do because it is right to give back to society.

7) My Healing Path
8) Little Heroes
9) Christian-Journey

Of course, the perfect 10 is this Make$ Money$ blog. I bought the domain to keep my brand name of 5xmom and didn’t know what to do with it. So, I shared my blunders and what works for me.

10) Make$ Money$

And you may ask – Do you have anymore hidden? My answer – Yes! My two old blogspot blogs which I still maintain but not proud to show off. I hate losing the page rank and they do drive organic traffic still.

And yeah, I have a few domains that I keep but never blog.

So, that makes me with a dozen blog.

They are all manageable to me because I love every single one of them as they are an extension of me. The different facades of me as a woman, mom, member of the community and a champion for mothers to be a full time mom without feeling like they have lost their identity. We can still earn decent income with the skills we learnt but left behind in our workplace to concentrate on our family and children.

So, say bravo to me, will ya?

Do you realise how influential you are? People are having more than 1 domain because they see you as the model example!
