03Apr Anyone using Streamyx 4.0Mbps broadband?
UPDATED : TMNet 4.0 MBps broadband customer service sucks. They disconnected my old line, leaving me without broaadband and say they will need 3-7 days to upgrade. I demanded them to connect back but now, they say they need another three day. Conclusion - TMNet 4.0 Mbps broadband sucks. Stay away. Jangan langgani Streamyx.
My dear hubby, tired of listening to my sons and I screaming “Blardy hell! Why is the line so slow!!!!!” everyday, decides to UPSIZE the broadband package. Right now, we are using the 1.0Mbps and Streamyx really, really sucks. We have five computers at home and as you know, with two teens, we practically want to kill each other.
The original price per month for the Streamyx 4.0 Mbps was RM268 but I heard that there is a promotion now to combine my house phone line with Streamyx and we pay only RM160. Currently, with the house phone and the Streamyx 1.0Mbps, we are paying RM115.
I hope to get some feedback before he commit to the one year package. We need to pay in advance. I know our home line is really, really slow because errm..sometimes when I accidentally found a friendly neighbour’s line, theirs is super fast.
At times, I use my Celcom 512Kbps which is for my Sony Ericsson P1i (btw, that Low Gwo Burne cameraman of Lingam’s case said this is his current phone too ;) ) and it is bearable but still dead slow.
And no, this is not a Streamyx paid advertorial. So I can still say, STREAMYX, YOU SUXS!

If your neighbor is on the same 1.0 Mbps plan, but faster than yours, then you better install something like FreeMeter (free software) to check your internet usage on each of your computers - you might have some spyware or trojans installed that keeps hogging your bandwidth. It should show zero to very little usage when you don’t have any browsers open. So many people using, inadvertently all it takes is one person to accidentally install spyware/trojan.

Leona - I got it! My hubby went to enquire and so happen they have a roadshow with freebies, lots of them. Dear hubby cannot resist freebies so he signed up on the spot. Now, I just need to wait for the technician to come and fix the line. I will report if it feels faster going on 4Mbps

4Mbps is depends on your house to the nearest exchange. I would advise you to check the DSL downlink and uplink speed you are getting in your DSL modem. It might be you are getting poor DSL signal and this might affect your download and upload speed.
I encountered this myself in my mum’s house. The uplink DSL signal is very bad and affected every single email when I am trying to perform a attachment upload.
Please perform a download and upload speed test using http://www.speedtest.net using nearest server like Malaysia and Singapore. Remember to use only 1 PC/Laptop connected to the DSL modem.

Would love to upgrade my Streamyx line but the biggest hassle is dealing with their customer service and waiting for the technician to come etc.
If only there was a genuine competitor for broadband in Malaysia. Competition would really shake things up.

Speeds in the US are even worse than in the UK. I thought the US would be ahead of the whole world, with all the big technology companies.

4mbp is just something you should not trust from streamyx ! simple, 3 reason. ( speed is on BEST EFFORT ) as written by streamyx, so where is the so call EFFORT, when we are receiving so much compliant and there is no effort made to correct them !! second, malaysian international internet gateway is only a few gigabytes, if i not mistaken is 150gb/s which streamyx is holding roughly 80~100gb/s and the rest is by other ISP like jaring or so ! Ya, 100gb/s is a huge speed, but imagine there is almost half a million user of streamyx. If you do your math properly, you can see how the speed is distributed among the users which is pretty limited. 1mbps you can roughly get 100kb/s download speed but with 4mbps is only around 300kp/s that also is on a very very good day !!! Third, well the best reason of all, tmnet exchange point is a huge mesh, port is may not available but is shared ( here is the example, like when you disconnected, you will have a hard time connecting back to the exchange point until some unlucky fellow disconnected and you take over his port )so it more like taking over someone else internet connection and use them, that the reason why u hard to connect during peak hour as all port is used up. How i know, study IT and you will know, me i download at 350kp/s, not streamyx but campus computer ( i know it illegal for students to use campus internet to download files, but be smart and use portable downloader which you don’t have to install in the pc, that way you will not be detected by the campus server and you can change pc easily use only your thumb drive ) :)

今天我打了个电话给streamyx,之前我用的是512kbps,在http://www.speedtest.net 试download speed 是有700kbps,在一星期前我upgrade到1.0 mbps, 过后又到http://www.speedtest.net试试download speed, 结果呢。。。。真失望。。870kbps maximum,,XXXX XXX XXXX
。。4.0 mbps-25%= 3.0 mbps, WHY PAY MORE???
