I went to Public Bank and told the receptionist I want to open a bank account and also apply for a Visa Electrron Debt Card. And this is what I am told. No matter how many times I asked for reconfirmation, the girl insisted these:
– It costs 5% for me to transfer the amount in my debit card to the savings accounts.
– I need to wait for 2 weeks to 1 month to get my debit card issued and it costs RM24 per year
– I told her I want to open a saving accounts since I am already at the bank and she told me I can wait for my debit card to be issued in two weeks to one month’s time.
So, forget it, Pubic Bank.
Then, I head over to Al Rajhi Bank and I am so pleased with their service.
– I got my Visa debit card on the spot
– I open a joint account with hubby (just in case I died, he can quietly withdraw all my money without hassles LOL)
– The Visa card is also the atm card
– I get electronic banking (transfer within account at the moment)
– I can transfer the amount I received in my debit card to my saving accounts online
– No charge, excellent service
– No crowds
– The debit card can be used to withdraw money from Maybank or Al Rajhi’s atms but if you withdraw from the other machines with Visa sign, you need to pay RM10 per transaction.
When I got home, I already can withdraw my PayPal to my Al Rajhi Visa debit card. It goes through like a breeze. I transferred USD105, of which USD5 is the per transaction fee. Note that you can only withdraw USD500 per day from your PayPal.
It takes 5-7 business days to get my money. So, let’s see how much I get.
Overall, go to Al Rajhi bank if you don’t have a Public Bank account. Public Bank was never in my good books. Their tellers are all sour face aunties, mostly. They are so bored looking, they won’t even bother to smile.
My blog buddy, Samm has posted on her OrganicIncome blog on how to withdraw PayPal to HSBC credit cards. Find out how.
NOTE : I read that PayPal may freeze your account if you make sudden withdrawals with a new card. So, try with small amount first. If your account is frozen, PayPal will need your printed documents to be couriered to them. So, go slow.

(October 12, 2007 - 2:33 pm)Wahhh liaww wehh….lucky you posted this first. I just like got the form from PB. You are right their service sucks. I was pointed to the form without the “aunty” even looking at me.
Al Rajhi it is then.

(October 12, 2007 - 2:38 pm)Rauff – Yeah, stay far away from Pubic Bank. LOL. They treat me like morons. Ask me to use the money I got, why I want to keep. And then, ask me to get PayPal to transfer to my bank account, why want to put into debit card. Haiyor, can vomit blood.
samm – Good lah, no need to go round and round to find a bank who wants a five digit income earner. Kahkahkah. Lucky I good mood today, never tiu them for asking me stupid questions when I ask them questions.

(October 12, 2007 - 2:42 pm)Can add another debit card in Paypal ah?
lilian
(October 12, 2007 - 3:12 pm)anthraxxx – HUH? Don’t get what you mean. I haven’t added any card before. Or you mean you want me to add your debit card there so I can ‘pau’ you or what? LOL.

(October 12, 2007 - 3:42 pm)Lilian,
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I read your post, then popped down to the Al Rajhi across the street. Ten minutes later I was already out with my brand new debit card. If you want to open a current account, the minimum deposit is RM500 — no introducer needed.

(October 12, 2007 - 4:22 pm)Yeah, Public Bank customer service is getting lousy now. I have an experience whenever I want to bank in to their one and the only cash deposit machine in Subang Jaya in the morning before they start work and shortly after the office hour, the CDM always out of order.
It makes me even more angry when I purposely wait for them to open for business and walk in to make the complaint.
Do you know what they said? “I am so sorry for that, it was because someone put in the clip XX XXX XXXX …” Then, I ask them, why don’t you put additional machine, since that one always break down. The staff replied me: “That one have to wait for HQ to decide, they will not simply to install extra machine unless there is a huge demand of usage”.
If they continue provide these kind of service, I thought of moving all my accounts to Maybank at the same row, which I can get better service, more ATM and Cash deposit machine.

(October 12, 2007 - 4:30 pm)LOL sorry. I mean how did you verify your paypal previously? With credit card? Let’s say if u already verify your paypal account with credit card before, can another debit card in it kah?

(October 12, 2007 - 4:32 pm)I also have some bad experience with Public Bank last time, when I open a savings account for my brother, their counter services is so slow and I spent 4 hours there just for applying a account, I was able to get the same thing done within 15 minutes in Hong Leong Bank
BTW, I think the bank name in your post title should correct to “Al Rajhi” :D

(October 12, 2007 - 5:14 pm)I did some research on Al Rajhi bank just now but cannot see any information that show we can withdraw the money from Maybank’s ATM machine? Can you confirm on that?
I also found the card is syariah-compliant, that means you cannot do any non-halal transaction with the card, is it true?
According to Veridle, its online banking only allow you to check balance and transaction, can you tell us whether you can do online money transfer, including between your own account, within the bank and to other banks?
Thank you :D

(October 12, 2007 - 5:50 pm)hmmm…so many things going on. I sent in my PB Visa Electron form using express courier service two days ago(?) together with a RM25 check. Despite that, my application form isn’t even in their system yet(check by IC number).
I need the debit card quick so that I can have some “in and out transactions” before I withdraw bigger sum. I need the $$$ *sigh*
However, I still prefer PB’s debit card over Al Rahji, simply because it looks better. LOL.

(October 12, 2007 - 5:51 pm)Yes, it looks like Al Rajhi Bank is better but I don’t understand why there is a need for you to transfer the money in your card to your savings account because the card is interest-earning as well. It acts as a bank account in a way.
If you want to avoid the 5% fees, you can always do a little bit more by withdrawing out the cash and redepositing the money into either your card or into yur savings account.
Don’t blame me, I am in favour to Public Bank. :-P
@ KennyP
The article you pointed out to me has been read by me before and this is why I always tell others that Public Bank Visa Electron is still the better cards.
lilian
(October 12, 2007 - 8:04 pm)wayne – First, do you know how much I get in my PayPal every month. So, don’t you think it is very foolish to carry a five digit amount debit card around? I don’t keep my money in my savings account. I will keep the money elsewhere so that’s why I need to keep transferring the money to a bank account and then, do something else with it.
Secondly, do you know how much is 5% of lets say RM10K?
So those of you with Public Bank electron visa card, check if you really need to pay 5% if you withdraw your money from your debit card. That’s a huge cut, you know?
lilian
(October 12, 2007 - 8:10 pm)tenth of march – Pubic Bank service suxs. LOLZ.
Kenny – Yes, Maybank can withdraw. The officer confirmed this. Haram? LOL, we are not Muslims so nothing is haram to us.
Yes right now, their internet banking is limited to their own system but it will be expanded. Anyway, that doesn’t matter because I never pay bills. I only keep money, lots of them.
And Islamic banking pays better, you know? I have Islamic banking fixed deposits with CIMB. The interest is higher. So, whichever pays better, I take lah.
steven – I used to have my car loan from Public Bank before. I think their staffs worked way too long and they think like the old skool, i.e. we owe them.
morituri – Yes, the service is great. No need to wait indefinitely for the card. On the spot, free of charge and no crowds.

(October 12, 2007 - 9:23 pm)PBB is s*cks… i have submit my application for about two weeks, yet still not in their system!!
KennyP
(October 12, 2007 - 10:23 pm)Maybank’s ATM machine is everywhere, if so, it is so convenience to withdraw from Al Rajhi debit card.
I think money transfer between banks on the internet banking is also important to you, imagine you can transfer the money to your bank account in other banks just by clicking.
Al Rajhi seems to be a great choice for me now, maybe I should to give my PBB card application.

(November 26, 2007 - 3:14 pm)Ok it’s confirmed now that it’s easy to withdraw from Al Radjhi.
However, I just heard that you cannot use the Al Radjhi debit card to verify your PayPal account. Can anyone confirm this? I just asked a friend to open an Al Radjhi account to verify his brand new PayPal (oops).
Shankar
(December 12, 2007 - 6:17 pm)I just opened a savings-i account with Al Radjhi today. Received my Visa debit card on the spot. So the moment i got home, i fired up paypal and added a new card… it was successful. Then i made this card my primary. But when i wanted to “Get Verified”, meaning that will make PayPal charge me $1.95 USD, and it FAILED!
I called the Helpline at the back of my card: 1300 82 6000. They say that they are aware of the matter and working on it. Asked when will the resolve it… “We dont know exactly when”.
So does this confirms:
1) You can withdraw to Al Rajhi Visa from PayPal
2) Can make payments with PayPal to other vendors.. but
3) Just cant verify your card with PayPal
Can anyone confirm all of this please…
lilian
(December 13, 2007 - 1:13 am)shankar – Since a few people had mentioned it, I believe you cannot verify your account with an Alrajhi card. I used my Mastercard credit card to verify. As for the USD1.95, PayPal will return you the money the next time you make a payment.
The problem lies with PayPal I believe because they are rather strict. At one point, our Malaysians accounts were frozen and I went out and bought a VMI card.
On the other hand, I know Public Bank Electron can be used to verify PayPal account. Hope you chase Al Rajhi and shares with us the outcome.

I just opened my Al-Rahji after being told by friend that it is easy to transfer from paypal. One day after I got the card, I transferred a sum of USD500 to Al-Rahji card. The transfer took place on 7 July 2008. On 11 July 2008 I checked my account and yes! I got the money…the exchange rate also amazing….after deducting paypal fees of USD5, the exchange rate is RM3.218…nice! Not bad for only 1 week waiting with a very good exchange rate…
